Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal was boern on June 3, 1986 in Manacor, Majorca. He is currently ranked World Number 3. He is the first player to hold Grand Slam titles on grass, clay and hard-court. When Rafael was only 3-years old, his uncle Toni Nadal, a former professional tennis player recognized his nephew’s talent for tennis. Toni Nadal has been training him ever since then. At the age of 12, Nadal won the Spanish and European tennis titles in his age group. By the age of 16, he was ranked in the world’s top 50 players.
In 2005, Nadal reached the Miami Masters final round. Although he lost the match to Roger federer, Nadal’s performance caught everybody’s attention. The match was considered to be a breakthrough for Nadal. He quickly moved up the ranks and when he won the French Open his ranking increased to Number 3. He also became the first teenager since Pete Sampras to win a Grand Slam Singles.
In 2008, Nadal played Federer in the Wimbledon finals for the third year in a row. Unlike the previous teo year however, Nadal emerged as the victor. Many tennis critics said that it was possibly the greatest match in tennis history. At the Beijing Olympics, Nadal became the first male tennis player ranked in the top five to win a gold medal. He also became the first and only male player to win the French Open, Wimbledon, and an Olympic gold medal in the same year.
