Barack ObamaBarack Obama
The previous United States Senator Illiois, Barack Hussein Obama II, is currently 44th President of the United States. While that in itself is a great achievement, he one-ups this by also being the first African American to hold this office.
Obama’s presidential campaign began in February 2007, where he was up against the other candidate of the Democratic Party, Hillary Rodham Cliton. After winning the nomination from his party, he went on to defeat the Republican candidate John McCain. Obama was inaugurated as the President of the United States on January 20, 2009. Later that year, he was named the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”.
As president, Obama made a number of reforms, most notably in health care, and initiated the gradual withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.
