Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper of the Indian cricket team. His talent and cool head on the field have earned him the spot of India’s captain. Under his leadership, India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and climbed to the number one spot in ICC ranking in Test cricket for the first time in history.
Dhoni was born in Ranchi on July 7, 1981. As a child, he excelled in badminton and football and even played district level football. It was, in fact, his football coach who sent him to play cricket for local club. In 1995, he became the regular wicketkeeper of the Commando cricket club. Then, in 1997, he was chosen to play for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Under-16 Championship. In the 1998-99 season Dhoni made his debut on Bihar’s cricket team. In 2004, he was selected for the India A team to play for a tour in Kenya.
Due to his amazing talent on the field, Dhoni has received many awards including the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2008 and 2009, the Rajiv Gandhi Ratna awars and the Padma shre. In2009, he was named captain of Wisden’s first-ever Dream Test XI Team and is one of the highest ranked ODI batsman on the ICC Ranking List.
