Gautam Gambhir is recognized as one of India’s most prolific cricketers today. Nicknamed ‘Gauti” , he is a left-handed batsman, known for his well balanced yet aggressive style of batting.
Gambhir was born in Delhi on octomber14, 1981. His ODI debut was in TVS cup series against Bangladesh at Dhaka in April 2003 where he was named the Man of the Match in the third match. He scored 440 runs in the commonwealth Bank ODI series in 2007-8. He has played 78 ODI scoring a total of 2594 runs with a highest score of 150 runs.
Gambhir played his first test match for India on November 3,2004 against Australia. In the 25 test matches that he has played so far he has scored 2271 runs with personal best 2006. He has also proved himself at The T20 format.
His first T20 match was against Scotland at Durban on September 13,2007. He has played 51 matches scoring 1404 runs with a best of 86. He led India to victory in ICC World T20 cup final at South Africa with his 75 runs of 54 balls. Gambhir has won Arjuna Award for his contribution to cricket. He also won multiple awards at the Castrol awards this year and is nominated for the ICC award. He has replaced Virender Sehwag as captain of the T20 league team Delhi Daredevils.
