William Wordsworth

ONE of the most important poets in Britain, William Wordsworth was born on April 7, 1770, in the scenic Lake District region of Britain. He is recognized as the Romantic Age in literary history, a very important and redical period. The Romantic Age saw significant shifts in thoughts and ideas. Influenced by Wordsworth, poets moved away from the lofty and elaborate poetic language of the past and sought to write in the simpler, common speech of people.
Poets also became more concerned with human life than with the supernatural during this time. They were interested in themes of innocence, childhood and nature. Wordsworth’s famous works are The Prelude, Tintern Abbey and Daffodils. In 1843, Wordsworth became the Poet Laureate, the greatest honour that a poet can receive in Britain. He died on April 23, 1850, and was buried in the St. Oswald’s church in Grasmere.
