His Works :

A Thousand Splendid Suns

A Thousand Splendid Suns has alerted millions of readers to the horrors endured by Afghan women, and the subject remains at the top of Hosseini’s agenda : “ I don’t want to sound self important, but this is a vital issue for Afghanistan. If we eliminate half the population from the process of rebuilding the country, it doesn’t stand a chance. Women were traditionally the backbone of education system. Now we have a country where 80 percent of women are illiterate. “

Women also display astonishing courage and tenacity, and it’s those elements Mariam’s and Laila’s story that have made the novel a runaway bestseller.
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a breathtaking story set against the volatile events of Afghanistan’s last thirty years-from the Soviet invasion to the reign of the Taliban to the post Taliban rebuilding- that puts the violence, fear hope and faith of this country in intimate, human terms. It is a tale of two generations brought jarringly together by the tragic sweep of war, where personal lives- the struggle to survive , raise a family, find happiness- are inextricable playing out around them.

The Kite Runner

Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of the monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable, beautifully told story. It is about the bonds between fathers and sons, and the power of their lies. Written against a history that has not been told in fiction before, the book describes the rich culture and beauty of a land in the process of being destroyed. But with the devastation, Khaled Hosseini also gives us hope.
