Rowan Atkinson
Rowan Atkinson, more popular with kids as Mr. Bean, is an English actor and comedian. Born on January 6, 1955, in Durham, England, Atkinson has also written several screenplays and was listed as one of the funniest actors in British comedy by The Observer. Starting his career on radio, Atkinson wrote and executed a satirical comedy called The Atkinson People on BBC Radio 3. He then became famous for his work in Not the Nine O’Clock News and the sitcom The Black Adder that became one of the most successful BBC situation comedies of all time. After this, he gained widespread acclaim for the Mr. Bean TV series, which has also been made into two movies – Bean and Mr. Bean’s Holiday. The trademark pronunciation of the letter ‘B’ by Atkinson is a technique to cover up a stammer.
Atkinson has appeared on stage in various skits and starred in the West End Musical Oliver! as Fagin in 2009.
