ANISH KAPOOR is a British sculptor of Indian origin. Born on March 12,1954, he has resided, studied and worked in London since the 1970s. Kapoor, born in Mumbai, moved to London to study art, first at the Hornsey College of Art and later at the Chelsea School of Art and Design. He showcased his first works as part of ‘New British Sculpture’, wherein the work of a group of artistes was exhibited in London, England, in the early 1980s. As his fame grew, Kapoor began to exhibit his works internationally at several reputed venues, including the Tate Gallery in London and Reina Sofia in Madrid.
Some of the works of this recipient of the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) include Parabolic Waters, which was shown outside the Millennium Dome in London, and Cloud Gate, a 110-ton stainless steel sculpture with a mirror finish, which has been permanently installed in Chicago’s Millennium Park.
