Hina Rabbani Khar is a Pakistani politician. She recently assumed the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, becoming the youngest and first female in Pakistan to do so.
Khar was born in Multan in Pakistan’s Punjab on January 19, 1977. She graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree from Lahore University of Management Sciences in 1999 and
then went on to study for a Master’s degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Massachusetts in 2001.
A mother of two and co-owner of a restaurant in Lahore, Khar dons many hats. Her political career started in 2002, when she was elected to the National Assembly from the Pakistan Muslim League (Q). In 2008, however, the party refused her a ticket for reelection. She then ran on a ticket from the Pakistan Peoples Party and won by more than 84,000 votes. Khar first served as the State Minister for Economic Affairs and Statistics before being officially appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
