Spending time with your child

“ How can I spend time effectively with my child?” asks a mom in a letter

It is not the amount of time you spend with your child that matters, how you spend it. The first point to keep in mind is , give children an attentive ear. Talk to them, and listen to what they have to say. They probably have so many things to tell you, about happening in their school, harmless gossip about their friend etc. Take an active interest in such talk. These exchanges will ultimately help to develop their communication skills.
Taking short walks with children are fun and useful too. Let the walks be slow, allowing them to observe and take in all that they see. This will sharpen their observation skills, and they will also learn a lot of things from the world round.
Reading out, or telling stories are also an effective way of spending time with children. As the child watches you go through the pages, listening to the magical words, they are getting introduced to the wonderful world of books. You can also read out interesting articles from the newspaper that children might be interested in.
You should also make it a point to make sure that at least some time is devoted daily to all the family members to be together, exchanging ideas and news. An ideal occasion for this might be during dinner time.
Whatever means you resort to, remember that any amount of quality time you spend for your child is an investment for his or her future!
