Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954. She is a talk-show host, actor, producer, philanthropist and businesswoman.
Oprah Winfrey had a troubled childhood; but she rose above all the hardships. At the age of 17, she was offered a job at WVOL (radio station). During her first years at Tennessee State University, she was signed on with a local television station as a
reporter and anchor.
In 1976, Oprah co hosted her first talk show, People Are Talking. Due to its success, she was invited to Chicago to host a faltering programme called AM Chicago; it went on to become the biggest show in town. In September 1985, it was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show. Winfrey has won several Daytime Emmys for it. As an actor, Oprah Winfrey was appreciated in the film The Color Purple. Oprah’s desire for quality
entertainment led her to start Harpo Productions, Inc., in 1986. She also publishes two magazines, O, The Oprah Magazine, and O at Home.
