STEFAN EDBERG is a professional international tennis player. He was born in the town of Vastervik, Sweden, on January 19, 1966. He has won six Grand Slam singles titles and three men’s doubles titles in his career. He has also won the Masters Grand Prix and four Masters Series titles and four Championship Series titles.

Edberg won four Grand Slam junior titles in 1983 – the Australian, French, Wimbledon and US 18-andunder singles. He thus became the first-ever player to achieve the Junior Grand Slam.Between 1988 and 1990 came one of the greatest tennis rivalries. At this time, Edberg faced German Boris Becker in the Wimbledon finals. Edberg won the first encounter, while Becker claimed the second. The third proved to be their closest final, as the Swiss won in five sets after being down a break in the fifth set. Also in 1990, Edberg took the World No 1 ranking from Ivan Lendl by winning the Super 9 tournament in Cincinnati. He also holds the distinction of defeating two other all-time tennis greats– Jim Courier and Pete Sampras. He beat both of them at the US Open finals, the former in 1991 and the latter in 1992. Since 2008, Edberg has been a member of the Black Rock Tour of Champions, a tour for now retired professional tennis players.
