Ferran Adrià i Acosta

BORN on May 14, 1962, in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, a city in Catalonia, Spain, Ferran Adrià i Acosta is arguably the world’s best chef. At the age of 18,Adria began his career when the chef de cuisine at the Hotel Playafels (where Adrià worked as a dishwasher) taught him traditional Spanish cuisine.

In 1984, he joined El Bulli as a line cook. In less than two years, he became the head chef there. It was under Adrià’s leadership that El Bulli acquired three Michelin stars. Starting from the late 1980s, Adrià began experimenting with his culinary skills. One area in which he experimented was ‘molecular gastronomy’. Molecular gastronomy is the application of science to culinary practices. Adrià’s niche is that his creations never fail to surprise his guests. Nothing that comes from his kitchen is actually what it looks like. Adrià El Bulli is now so famous, that the restaurant is open only for about six months in a year and has 400 requests for everytable at any given point.
