Recognize Individuality (To the parents and teachers)

“The child must know that he is a miracle that since the beginning of the world till the end of the world there will not be another child like him.” – Pablo Casals

One of the foremost lessons of psychology is that no two individuals are alike. Each individual is unique. But it is a fact we seldom realize, some parents quit often compare between their children. In Fact individuals are different in terms of their interests, aptitudes, abilities, strengths, weaknesses, personality traits etc. Their capability to learn, learning methods, memory etc. are also different. Hence before criticizing a child you need to consider whether it is necessary and timely.

Just think of a tree which has thousands of leaves. Even in that single tree, the shape, size and other features of each leaf are unique. Likewise in every home, every class, every school, children have diverse characteristics and aptitudes. We can never expect similar type of performance and behavior traits from any two children. There cannot be two identical fingerprints; like wise there cannot be two exactly similar human beings.

We need to identify and recognize their differences. We will be doing injustice if we do not show the maturity and patience to understand the better qualities in our own children. We, parents and teachers, may aim at fostering essential qualities in children by strengthening the individuality and diversity in each child. Only then a child’s personality will blossom in its fullest way.
