SUNITA WILLIAMS AT HER NEW HOME IN SPACE

The Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft carrying Indian –American  astronaut Sunita Williams, Russian astronaut Yuri Malenchenko and Japanese astronaut Aki Hoshide was launched from Baikonur, Kazakhstan on July 15, 2012 starting a 120-day space mission.

She is the second woman of Indian heritage to have been selected by NASA for a space mission after kalpana Chawla. She holds three records for female space travelers; longest spaceflight (195days) number of spacewalks (four),and total time spent on spacewalks(29hours and 17 minutes).the astronauts were welcomed an International Space station on  July 17,2012 by Expedition 32 commander Gennady Padalka and two others who will depart on September 17, 2012 and Williams will take command of Expedition 33.
